BIORGRAPHY
Mira is an emerging Filipino self-taught artist based in Copenhagen. A story-teller and an explorer at heart, she navigates quixotic imageries of childish wonder layered with something more sinister all disguised in bold, bright colors. She specializes in surrealist acrylic paintings that transform daily human experiences —whether fleeting or profound—into metaphorical narratives.
Her practice seeks to spark curiosity and nostalgia. Through juxtaposition, exaggeration, and at times, anatomical distortion, Mira taps into the audience’s subconscious, inviting them to revisit fragments of reality through a lens of playfulness and unease. Her works embody metaphors hidden within whimsical subjects, reflecting both the absurdity and poignancy of contemporary life.
Mira’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries in the Philippines, most notably at the Pinto Art Museum, home to one of the country’s largest collections of contemporary art. Today, her studio practice remains a sanctuary—an evolving archive of anecdotal works that guide her through life’s shifting landscapes.
Before her creative breakthrough as a painter, theater was Mira’s first home. In 2015, she discovered her passion for acrylic painting and later spent six years working as a flight attendant in the Middle East. The countless journeys she embarked on during that period deeply informed her artistic direction, shaping a body of work that embraces both the exhilaration and solitude of life far from home.
Some of her works are held in private collections in Denmark, Greece, Belgium, USA, Qatar, Poland, Philippines and New Zealand.
